The first thing they can do is help students learn about the College&#8217;s available support services. While this begins with the Center for Accessibility Resources, it also reaches to valuable resources in health and counseling services, academic departments, residence life, and peer tutoring. This legislation is very different from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), covering primary and secondary education, grades K\u201312. This means that some adjustment of the perspectives of students and parents is necessary with making the transition from high school to college.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg__tableWrapper\">\n<table style=\"border-image: initial;\" border=\"1\" width=\"700\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"15\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th style=\"text-align: center; border-image: initial;\" scope=\"col\" width=\"250\">Post-secondary Education<\/th>\n<th style=\"text-align: center; border-image: initial;\" scope=\"col\" width=\"275\">K-12 Education<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">Section 504\/ADA\/ADA Amendments<\/p>\n<p>CIVIL RIGHTS LAW &#8211; GUARANTEES ACCESS<\/td>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)<\/p>\n<p>LAW of ENTITLEMENT &#8211; GUARANTEES SUCCESS<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">Students compete for admission and must be \u201cotherwise qualified\u201d to enter college, without consideration of the disability. Students participate in the general curriculum of the college; no continuum of placement exists.<\/td>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">Every child is entitled to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the \u201cleast restrictive environment\u201d possible.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">The student is responsible for disclosing the disability to the Center for Accessibility Resources\u00a0staff and for discussing approved accommodations with their instructors (professors).\u00a0 There are no team meetings, service plans, or IEPs in post-secondary education.<\/td>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">Yearly meetings of special and general education teachers plus auxiliary service personnel are held to discuss student progress and set goals.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border-image: initial;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"33%\">Instructors (professors) do not fundamentally alter the content or goals of their courses.
